UK PM Brands Infantino ‘Wrong Man’ for FIFA Leadership

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has labelled FIFA President Gianni Infantino the ‘wrong man’ for the job after his controversial proposal to sell shares to private investors in competitions sparked global outrage.

Burnham, who has been a vocal critic of the plan, reiterated his stance on Friday, calling it an ‘utterly reprehensible suggestion’. ‘The fact that such an idea can even be floated suggests to me that he is the wrong person to lead the organisation,’ he said.

Burnham’s strong words came after his initial robust response to Infantino’s proposals earlier in the week. ‘Football is not for investors,’ Burnham, an Everton supporter, tweeted on Tuesday. ‘It’s for the people who turn up every week, rain or shine, and stand on the terraces. It’s wrong to float a proposal to sell shares in these competitions.’
