Nepal’s Ruila and Ngula Border Crossings Reopen, Boosting Local Trade

Nepal’s border crossings with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, Ruila and Ngula, have reopened, allowing locals to resume trade and daily commutes across the border.

For years, locals in the border region have relied on cross-border trade, selling products like yarsagumba and forest garlic to Tibet and bringing back food, clothing, and other essential items.

According to Pasang Lama, a local trader from Chumnubri, the reopening of the border crossings has increased trade activity, bringing joy to the local community.

Facilitating Cross-Border Movement

Gorkha’s Chief District Officer, Netra Prasad Sharma, said that the district administration has been actively facilitating the easy movement of people across the border.

The administration has been issuing entry permits and renewing identity cards through the area administration office.

Sharma stated that the administration has prioritized simplifying border procedures and providing administrative support, resulting in the issuance of 197 new entry passes and the renewal of 404 passes in the previous fiscal year.

However, the sparse population in the border region has resulted in limited trade activity.
