Five Officials Arrested in Nepal for Bribery

Five officials, including three from the land revenue office in Lalitpur, have been arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on charges of bribery. The officials were caught taking bribes while processing land ownership certificates.

Those arrested include Uttam Kunwar, Vishal Sundas, and Rajkumar Magar, all non-gazetted officials from the land revenue office, as well as accountants Shailesh Ranamagar and Samir Katwal. They were arrested on Saturday, Ashar 16, 2083, from a hotel in Lalitpur.

The CIAA said that the officials had demanded bribes from service seekers in exchange for processing their land ownership certificates. A total of Rs 300,000 in bribes was recovered from the officials, along with an additional Rs 25,000 of unknown source.

The arrests are part of the CIAA’s efforts to curb corruption in the country’s land administration offices. The commission has been cracking down on officials involved in bribery and other forms of corruption.
