Nepal’s Postal Service Begins Delivering Driver’s Licenses to Citizens’ Homes

The Postal Directorate in Surkhet has started delivering driver’s licenses to citizens’ homes, beginning Friday. The initiative aims to provide government services at people’s doorsteps, as stated in the 100-point government reform agenda approved by the Council of Ministers on Chaitra 13.

According to Director of the Postal Directorate, Govinda Prasad Pande, the service will benefit citizens from remote areas of Karnali Province, who previously had to travel to Surkhet, Jumla, or Rukum (West) to obtain a driver’s license, incurring significant expenses.

Citizens who meet the required standards, including written and practical driving tests, can now receive their driver’s licenses at home, paying a postal fee of only Rs 40. The service is part of the postal service’s efforts to expand its reach and provide convenient services to citizens.

The postal service has already been delivering various items, including passports, SIM cards, and other essential goods, to citizens’ homes. Additionally, the service has been used to transport blood, stool, and urine samples from the Provincial Public Health Laboratory to Kathmandu for testing via air transport.

Convenience and Accessibility

The initiative is expected to enhance convenience and accessibility for citizens, especially those living in remote areas. With the postal service delivering driver’s licenses, citizens can now save time and money that would have been spent traveling to obtain the license.

Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, Arjun Kumar Bam, and Director Pande signed a memorandum of understanding to formally launch the service.
