Nepal’s Main Highways and Roads Disrupted Due to Landslides and Floods

Nepal’s main highways and roads have been severely disrupted due to landslides and floods triggered by continuous rainfall. The Nepal Police reported that several major roads and highways across the country have been completely blocked, while some have restricted night-time vehicle movement.

The BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli districts has been partially blocked due to a potential flood risk in the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi section. Vehicle movement has been restricted from 6 pm to 4 am in this section. Similarly, the Kantipath highway has also restricted vehicle movement from 5 pm to 5 am.

The Ilam Municipality-9 Mechi Highway has been completely blocked due to a landslide caused by heavy rainfall. The Arniko Highway in Bhote Koshi rural municipality, Sindhupalchok, has also been completely blocked due to a landslide. The Lamasaanghu-Ramechhap road section in Dolakha’s Tamakoshi rural municipality-5 has been blocked due to the Samakoshi River’s strong currents.

The Pasang Lhamu road section in Rasuwa’s Uttergaya rural municipality-5 has been completely blocked due to the Trishuli River’s erosion. The Larkhe-Beni Ghat dirt road in Gorakha’s Dharce rural municipality-3 has also been completely blocked due to a landslide. The police have urged travelers to obtain information about the road conditions from the concerned authorities and exercise necessary caution before traveling.
