Nepalgunj and its surrounding areas are facing a shortage of blood, with hospitals in the region struggling to meet the demand for blood transfusions.
According to Upendra Regmi, chief of the Lumbini Provincial Blood Transfusion Service Centre in Nepalgunj, the centre is unable to meet the daily demand of 70 to 100 pints of blood, managing to distribute only 60 to 70 pints.
Regmi said that the centre has been providing safe blood to patients in 42 hospitals in the region, including Nepalgunj, Kohalpur, and Khajura. He added that the demand for blood has increased due to the rising number of patients in various hospitals in the region.
Blood Donation Campaigns
The Lumbini Provincial Blood Transfusion Service Centre has been urging various organizations and individuals to increase blood donation. Regmi said that the centre has been working with different organizations to organize blood donation programs.
The Nepal Red Cross Society, Banke District Chapter, has been operating blood transfusion services from three locations in the district, including the Regional Blood Transfusion Service Centre in Nepalgunj, Kohalpur Medical College Teaching Hospital, and Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital in Khajura.
The society has been conducting regular blood transfusion services and has been working to increase public awareness and participation in blood donation programs to ensure the availability of safe blood.
As of Ashar 29, 2083, the Lumbini Provincial Blood Transfusion Service Centre had 101 pints of blood in stock in Nepalgunj, 62 pints in Kohalpur, and 17 pints in Khajura.
