Nepal Police have arrested two individuals in Rukum West for their alleged involvement in the opium trade. The arrests were made on Thursday by a joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Surkhet, and the District Police Office, Rukum West.
Those arrested are 28-year-old Tikaram Bohora from Ward No. 3 of Aathbiskot Municipality and 20-year-old Ganesh Oli from Ward No. 2 of the same municipality. According to the police, they were arrested after they attempted to attack the police with a khukuri when they tried to take control of the situation.
Police spokesperson, Inspector Durga Raj Regmi, said that the arrests were made after the police received information about the opium trade in Ward No. 4 of Aathbiskot Municipality. Three kilograms of opium were recovered from the arrested individuals, who are currently in police custody.
In a separate incident, the police arrested a 32-year-old woman, Jyoti Shrestha, from Pokhara Metropolitan City-32, along with 5 kilograms 450 grams of cannabis. According to the police, Shrestha was arrested on Friday morning while she was trying to sell the cannabis in Pokhara. She had brought the cannabis from Dhading.
