Nepali Climbers Missing After Avalanche in Pakistan

Six Nepali climbers are among those missing after an avalanche hit the 8,047-meter-high Broad Peak in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range.

The avalanche occurred on Thursday, and the Nepali climbers were part of a 10-member international team led by Purja that lost contact.

According to the Pakistan Alpine Club, two rescue helicopters have been deployed to search for the missing climbers. The helicopters are equipped with special equipment and rescue personnel to aid in the search and rescue efforts.

Nepali MP Mingma Gyabu Sherpa said that search operations are ongoing, and a team from Nepal is also preparing to head to the location. ‘We are continuously getting updates. No further information has been received. We are also preparing to go there from Nepal with a helicopter,’ Sherpa said.

The missing Nepali climbers include Purba Bahadur Gurung, Kelipemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Tenzing Sherpa, Gyelu Sherpa, and Nirmal Purja.
