A 13-point agreement has been reached between the Nepal government and Hindu groups, following a meeting between Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and representatives of the Hindu organizations in Janakpur on Saturday.
The agreement includes provisions to promote religious harmony, social peace, and national identity. The government has agreed to initiate a three-month-long all-party discussion on declaring Nepal a Hindu state.
Other key points in the agreement include controlling the display of arms and provocative activities at religious sites, regulating the use of loudspeakers at temples, mosques, and churches, and maintaining records of people living in religious sites.
The government has also agreed to review the case of those arrested in connection with the Devanagari incident in Sunsari and to provide medical treatment and health services to those injured during the protests.
Additionally, the agreement includes provisions to ensure the safety of citizens participating in the protests, to investigate the distribution of Nepali citizenship to foreigners, and to monitor the financial transactions of madrasas, mosques, and other religious institutions.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Gurung, Madhes Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, Madhes Province Finance Minister Yubaraj Bhattrai, and representatives of various Hindu organizations.
