A Nepalese court has ordered the release of Siddharth Thapa, a representative of the German company Veridos, which was involved in a passport printing contract scandal.
The Special Court, comprising Chairman Basudev Acharya and member Hemant Rawal, ordered Thapa’s release on a general date without bail on Friday.
Earlier, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against 18 individuals, including Thapa, accusing them of corruption in the procurement of passports and claiming over Rs 1.013 billion in damages.
Other defendants in the case include Tirtharaj Aryal, the then-Director General of the Passport Department, employees, companies, and foreign nationals.
