Heavy Rain and Landslides Disrupt Nepal’s Major Highways

Nepal’s major highways and roads have been severely disrupted due to heavy rainfall, landslides, and flooding across the country.

The Nepal Police reported that several roads have been completely blocked, while others have restrictions on nighttime travel. The BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli districts has been closed from 6 pm to 4 am due to the risk of flooding in the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi section.

Similarly, the Kantipath road has also been closed from 5 pm to 5 am. The Ilam Municipality-9 Mechi Highway has been completely blocked due to landslides caused by heavy rainfall.

Blocked Roads

The Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok’s Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality has been completely blocked due to landslides in the Jirkoilo and Kodari areas. The Lamasinghu-Ramechhap road in Dolakha’s Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5 has been blocked due to the Sama Koshi River’s overflow.

The Pasang Lhamu road in Rasuwa’s Utargaya Rural Municipality-5 has been completely blocked due to the Trishuli River’s overflow. The Larkhe-Beni Ghat dirt road in Gorkha’s Dharche Rural Municipality-3 has also been completely blocked due to landslides.

The police have urged travelers to take necessary precautions and obtain information about road conditions from relevant authorities before embarking on their journey, as the risk of landslides, flooding, and road blockages remains high during the monsoon season.
