Nepal’s road networks have been severely disrupted due to the recent floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall. According to the Nepal Police, several major highways and roads have been completely blocked, while others are open to one-way traffic.
The Kantipath section in Bagmati Gaunpalika, Lalitpur, has been completely blocked since Shrawan 12 due to landslides. Similarly, the Arniko Highway has been completely blocked in various locations in Bhote Koshi Gaunpalika, Sindhupalchok, after landslides occurred in the area.
The Lamusanghu-Ramechhap road section in Dolakha and the Trishuli-Mailung-Syaphrubesi road section in Rasuwa have also been disrupted due to floods. However, the police are working to restore traffic by using alternative routes in Dolakha.
In the Koshi Province, road traffic has been affected due to the rains. The Mechi Highway is completely blocked in Ilam, while the Mid-Hill Highway is open to one-way traffic in Bhojpur due to floods.
In the Bagmati Province, the risk of floods and landslides has prompted the authorities to restrict night-time traffic in Kavrepalanchok and Makwanpur. The police have announced that the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok will be closed from 6 pm to 4 am, and the Kantipath in Makwanpur will be closed from 5 pm to 5 am.
In the Gandaki Province, the Kaligandaki Corridor is open to one-way traffic in Baglung due to landslides, while the Arughat-Gorkha road section in Gorkha is fully operational. In the Karnali Province, road traffic has also been affected in Rukum West and Jajarkot due to floods and rains. The Bheri Corridor in Rukum West and the Jajarkot-Dolpa road section are completely blocked.
The police have urged travelers to check the road conditions with the local police office or authorities before embarking on their journey, as the situation can change at any time due to natural disasters.
