Nepal’s Health Ministry Embarks on Long-Term Reforms

The Ministry of Health and Population has initiated long-term reforms to enhance trust, safety, and accountability in the health services sector.

Following a recent incident at Narayani Hospital, the ministry has focused on preventing similar events in the future, rather than just limiting its response to legal action.

The ministry has also started the process of revising the law related to the security of health workers and institutions, with the aim of making it more relevant and effective.

Additionally, the ministry has begun consolidating its administrative structure, which was previously scattered across different locations, into a single building.

The ministry’s secretary, Dr. Bikas Devkota, has also been relocated to the same building, and other related departments will follow suit in a phased manner.

It is expected that this consolidation will improve internal coordination, decision-making processes, and overall service delivery.
