Curfew Remains in Place in Siraha Despite Agreement with Family of Deceased Teenager

A curfew imposed in Siraha remains in place despite an agreement between the government and the family of 15-year-old Ganesh Yadav, who was killed in a protest in Golbazar.

The agreement, signed on Friday, includes an eight-point commitment from the government, including declaring Ganesh Yadav a martyr, providing 1 million rupees in financial assistance to his family, and offering employment opportunities to a family member.

However, the curfew, which has restricted the movement of locals, remains in place. Security personnel are only allowing people to move around for essential work after questioning them.

Assistant Chief District Officer of Siraha, Chetraj Baral, said that a meeting will be held soon to discuss whether to lift the curfew or extend it. He added that a formal announcement will be made after the meeting.

The agreement also includes a commitment to conduct a fair investigation into the incident and take action against those responsible, as well as to implement the recommendations of the investigation committee.

Ganesh Yadav’s funeral was held on Friday, as per the agreement.

The curfew was imposed after protests erupted in Golbazar following Ganesh Yadav’s death. The government has deployed Nepal Police, Armed Police, and other security agencies to maintain law and order in the area.
