Nirmal Purja, also known as ‘Nims Dai’, a renowned mountaineer, has left his family, friends, and teachers in shock and grief after his death in a snowstorm on the ‘Broad Peak’ mountain in Pakistan.

At his home in Ramnagar, Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan, family members, neighbors, and teachers from his former school, Small Heaven School, have been paying their respects and offering condolences.

Purja’s brother, Jitbahadur Purja, expressed his pain and sorrow, saying that Nirmal had always informed him before going on a climb, but this time he had not shared any information before leaving for Pakistan.

Neighbors and family members have been gathering at the Purja residence since morning to pay their respects and offer condolences. A photo of Nirmal Purja has been placed in the house, and a lamp has been lit in his memory.

Nirmal Purja was born in Danam, Annapurna Gaunpalika-2, Myagdi, and had studied at Small Heaven School in Chitwan from class 3 to 10. He later joined the British Army.

His sports teacher, Suren Baral, remembered Nirmal as a brave and disciplined student from a young age. Baral said that Nirmal had lived in the school hostel and had always been an inspiration to his fellow students.

The principal of Small Heaven School, Ramchandra Nyapane, expressed his grief over Nirmal’s death, saying that the school was in shock and that Nirmal’s demise was an irreparable loss to the country.
