Nepal’s Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister, Viraj Bhatta Shrestha, has proposed expanding cooperation with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to advance various programs related to urban infrastructure, solar energy, and environmental management.
During a meeting with Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Acting Chief, Sunita Dangol, at the Ministry today, Minister Shrestha proposed collaboration on several initiatives, including the development of a groundwater recharge system, expansion and management of solar street lights, and the development of a model for ‘Waste to Energy’ projects in the metropolitan area.
Minister Shrestha emphasized the need for institutional coordination between the Ministry of Energy and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to implement these programs effectively. He expressed his belief that joint efforts could make urban services more effective and sustainable.
Acting Chief Dangol responded positively to Minister Shrestha’s proposal, stating that the metropolitan city would prepare a detailed plan and present it to the Ministry. The meeting also agreed to institutionalize cooperation between the two bodies in areas such as sustainable urban development, clean energy promotion, environmental protection, and modern infrastructure development.
