Nepal’s CPN-UML Says State Failed to Maintain Peace and Security

Nepal’s Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) has accused the state of failing to maintain peace and security in the country.

During a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, CPN-UML parliamentary party deputy leader Padma Aryal said the state had completely failed to maintain peace and security in the wake of the Sunsari incident.

Aryal also accused the state of creating fear and provoking incidents in Sunsari and other areas instead of promoting dialogue and trust.

She criticized Prime Minister for being unaware of the situation in the country despite the ongoing unrest and riots.

The Prime Minister’s post is not just for decorating Singh Durbar, but for leading the people during times of crisis and promoting dialogue, Aryal said.

Aryal questioned why the Prime Minister and Home Minister did not resign and face action when a shooting incident occurred in Kathmandu in the past, but are not doing so now after a similar incident in Sunsari.

The government should take moral responsibility for the incident, she said.

Aryal added that her party is ready to work with the government to establish peace and security in the country and strengthen the nation.
