Nepal Parliament Demands Answers on PM’s Border Comments and Recent Violence

Nepal’s parliament has demanded that the prime minister clarify his recent comments on border issues, which have sparked controversy and protests. The opposition party has also called for an investigation into the death of a local youth, Omprakash Mehta, in the Kapilvastu district.

The parliament’s speaker, Dol Prasad Aryal, allowed the opposition party’s chief whip, Vasantha Thapa, to speak on the issue. Thapa expressed dissatisfaction with the prime minister’s failure to provide a clear explanation for his comments on border issues, which has led to ongoing protests.

Thapa also demanded an investigation into Mehta’s death and called on the government to ensure the safety and security of citizens. She emphasized that the government’s primary responsibility is to protect the lives and property of its citizens.

Other lawmakers also raised concerns about the government’s handling of the situation. Padma Kumari Aryal, a member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), asked the prime minister to clarify his comments on border issues, which he made two months ago.

Aryal also raised concerns about the government’s response to the recent violence in Sunsari district, where a local youth was killed. She accused the government of failing to control the situation and demanded that it take responsibility for the incident.

Lawmakers from other parties also expressed their concerns and demanded that the government take immediate action to address the situation. Gopal Sharma, a member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), expressed disappointment that the prime minister’s comments on border issues had not been clarified despite repeated demands.

Sharma also accused the government of being insensitive to the situation in Sunsari district and demanded that it take immediate action to address the concerns of the local people.

Khusbu Oli, a member of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, called on all parties to work together to find a solution to the situation. She emphasized that the government needs to take the lead in finding a solution and that all parties should work together to maintain social harmony.
