Nepal Makes Detailed Job Descriptions Mandatory for Foreign Employment

Nepal’s Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has made it mandatory for foreign employment agencies to provide detailed job descriptions for Nepali workers going abroad.

The decision, made on Ashar 13, aims to reduce exploitation and cheating of Nepali workers, ensure their safety and security, and make the process of sending workers abroad more just, transparent and effective.

According to the ministry, the detailed job description will include the type of work, whether it is indoors or outdoors, and the working hours. If the worker is required to do both types of work, the certification process will require the working hours for both to be specified.

Previously, only the job title was required to be mentioned in the certification process. The ministry believes that the new system will help reduce exploitation and cheating of Nepali workers.

The ministry also checks the terms of service, salary, facilities, working environment and other aspects of the employment contract proposed by the foreign employer before certifying the demand letter.
