Nepal Lawmakers Slam Government Over Handling of Kaptangunj Incident

Nepal’s lawmakers have expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the recent incident in Kaptangunj, Sunsari.

During a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmakers from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and other parties criticized the government for not taking the incident seriously.

Gopal Sharma, an NCP lawmaker, said the government should take responsibility for the incident and provide immediate information to the House.

He accused the government of trying to evade its responsibility whenever a tragic incident occurs in the country.

Aren Rai, chief whip of the Socialist Party, also criticized the government’s role in times of crisis, saying it has not been effective.

Rai said the government should not be complacent and think that the country is fine just by looking at it from a distance.

He urged the government to come out of its complacency and work towards resolving the issues.

Khushbu Oli, chief whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), demanded a probe into the Kaptangunj incident.

She questioned who had ordered the police to fire, referring to the prime minister’s admission on Facebook that the police had fired.

Oli emphasized the need for a high-level commission to investigate the incident impartially and reliably, rather than just relying on assumptions, rumors, or official statements.

Other lawmakers also expressed their views that the government should take the incident seriously.
