Nepal’s Inland Revenue Department has launched a taxpayer incentive portal, encouraging consumers who make cash purchases to register their receipts.
The department issued a statement on Saturday urging consumers who make cash purchases of over 100 rupees to register their receipts on the new website, prize.ird.gov.np.
According to Janak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director-General and Joint Secretary of the department, consumers who make cash purchases of over 100 rupees and obtain receipts can participate in the taxpayer incentive program.
“We have launched a new website, and consumers can upload their receipts on the website,” Sharma said. “Consumers who make cash purchases for personal use and obtain receipts can participate in the program.”
The department has clarified that consumers who make purchases through QR code-based systems do not need to register their receipts, as they are already included in the incentive program.
However, the department has emphasized the importance of keeping receipts safe, as they will be required after the incentive program is announced.
The department has also urged consumers to request receipts from vendors and to inform the department if they do not receive receipts.
Program Details
The taxpayer incentive program was announced by Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84. The program aims to encourage consumers to obtain receipts and to promote a culture of tax compliance.
According to the program’s guidelines, one consumer will be selected every day to receive a cash prize of 100,000 rupees, and two consumers will be selected every 15 days to receive a bumper prize of 1 million rupees.
The department plans to announce the results of the first 15 days of the program next week.
“We are technically prepared to announce the results,” the department said. “If there are no major technical issues, we will announce the results of the first 15 days next week.”
