A massive avalanche on Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world, has left several climbers, including a renowned Nepali mountaineer, missing.
The Nepali government has been in constant contact with the Pakistani government to coordinate a swift search and rescue operation for the missing climbers, according to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.
The avalanche, which occurred on July 29, has left many climbers from different countries stranded, including Nepalis.
The Tourism Department expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that the entire mountaineering community is in shock.
To make the rescue operation more effective, the department has appealed to all concerned agencies to take necessary initiatives and coordinate with each other.
Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram mountain range of Pakistan, is 8,047 meters high.
Renowned climber Nirmal Purja, also known as ‘Nims Dai,’ is among those missing.
The rescue team has so far recovered the bodies of four people.
