Nepal Builders Association Urges Members to Bid Only at Suitable Rates

The Nepal Builders Association has appealed to its members to submit bids only at suitable rates, citing the current unfavorable situation in the construction sector.

According to the association, many ongoing projects have been estimated at old district rates, and construction materials are not readily available, making it risky to submit bids at low rates.

The association’s general secretary, Shivahari Ghimire, has requested members to participate in bidding after conducting economic risk analysis and considering other legal and technical complexities.

Ghimire has asked members to visit the project site, study the bidding documents, and submit bids only at rates that allow them to complete the project on time with good quality.

Background

The construction sector has been severely affected since February 28 due to the unexpected and excessive price hike in construction materials, including fuel and bitumen, caused by the war in the Middle East.

The association claims that builders have not received the price adjustment they are entitled to under the current law, rules, and Nepal Rastra Bank’s index, leading to financial difficulties for the businesses.

As a result, the association has urged its members to be cautious and submit bids only at suitable rates to avoid further financial risks.
