Guidance Book on Court Reporting Launched in Nepal

A guidance book on court reporting has been launched in Nepal, aiming to provide a valuable resource for journalists covering court proceedings.

The book, titled ‘Court Reporting Guidance’, was launched on Friday, 15 Shrawan, by the Supreme Court’s Editing and Publication Committee and the Constitutional and Judicial Journalists’ Forum.

Chief Justice Hari Phuyal, who is also the chair of the Editing and Publication Committee, launched the book and stated that it would be highly useful for court reporting. He added that the book would serve as a guide for those who want to report on court proceedings or write about the judiciary.

Justice Phuyal noted that the judiciary has become more transparent with the development of information technology. ‘We have worked to ensure that the judiciary is transparent and provides information, so that there are no complaints about the judiciary not providing information,’ he said.

During the book launch ceremony, Bijay Prasad Mishra, president of the Nepal Bar Association, discussed the importance of court reporting and the need for journalists to be aware of contempt of court laws.

The book, written and edited by Liladhar Upadhyay and Rakesh Bam, is expected to serve as a valuable resource for court reporters. It includes relevant laws, codes of conduct, Supreme Court judgments, and legal terminology used in court reporting.
