Chinese Climber Honored for Consecutive Ascent of Everest and Lhotse

A Chinese climber has been honored for successfully ascending Mount Everest and Lhotse in a single season. The climber, Cui Junjie, along with his Nepali guides, Nigma Tamang and Dawa Nuru Rai Sherpa, were recognized for their achievement by Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the chairman of the Nepal Communist Party.

The team’s ascent was notable for being a ‘non-stop’ climb, with the team descending only to Camp 2 before ascending Lhotse. This is a rare feat, as most climbers descend to Camp 4 before attempting Lhotse.

Chairman Dahal praised the team’s courage and progressive spirit, saying that their consecutive ascent of Everest and Lhotse had pushed the limits of mountaineering. He also expressed his admiration for the team’s physical endurance, technical skills, and mental toughness.

Dahal, who has a personal connection to the Himalayas, having had his son, Prakash Dahal, ascend Everest, said that he has a deep respect for the mountains and for every climber who attempts to conquer them. He also expressed his hope that the friendship between China and Nepal would be strengthened through people-to-people exchanges in mountaineering.

Cui Junjie credited his Nepali guides for their full support during the historic climb. He also expressed his commitment to promoting Himalayan mountaineering and China-Nepal friendship in the future.
