AFP journalist Anup Ojha has been awarded the Asian Development Bank Institute’s Developing Asia Journalism Award. The award, worth $2,000, was announced by the Asian Development Bank Institute, which is affiliated with the Asian Development Bank.
The award was given to Ojha for his report on early warning systems for disasters, which was published by AFP. The report highlighted a system developed by Professor Antoniette of the University of Melbourne, with the help of collaborators from Nepal, the UK, and Italy.
The system uses data on rainfall and soil to provide early warnings for floods and landslides. The report also featured the involvement of Tribhuvan University professors and the contribution of citizens from the northwest region in providing data for the system.
Ojha, who received the news of his award on Guru Purnima, said he felt deeply honored and dedicated his award to all his teachers, mentors, colleagues, and well-wishers. A long-time journalist with the Kathmandu Post, Ojha has been active with AFP for several years and has a background in feature reporting and multimedia journalism.
He is also active in the fields of music, acting, and singing. The Asian Development Bank Institute received 79 entries from 17 countries and selected five winners for the award, which was judged by a panel of investigators and journalists.
