Nepal Mourns Loss of Seven Climbers in Broad Peak Avalanche

Nepal has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of seven of its climbers, including renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja ‘Nims Dai’, in a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, the 12th highest mountain in the world.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident occurred on 14 Shrawan (Nepali calendar) at an altitude of 6,600 meters while the climbers were ascending from Camp-2 to Camp-3. The avalanche affected members of the Nepali and international climbing teams.

Those confirmed dead include Purba Bahadur Gurung ‘Yukta’, Kilu Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thinndu Sherpa, and Gyalu Sherpa, among others.

Following the incident, the Pakistani authorities and the Nepali team immediately launched a search and rescue operation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has praised the bravery of the Pakistani and Nepali teams involved in the rescue efforts in the challenging high-altitude terrain.

The Ministry stated that the bodies of Purba Bahadur Gurung ‘Yukta’ and Gyalu Sherpa have been recovered so far, while the search for the other climbers continues. Arrangements are being made to bring the bodies of the deceased back to Nepal through the Nepali Embassy in Islamabad.

The Government of Nepal has expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased climbers and paid tribute to their memory. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, with many mourning the loss of the brave climbers.
