Nepal Lawmakers Raise Concerns Over Rising Prices, Gas Shortage

Nepal’s lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention to several pressing issues, including rising prices of daily essentials, a shortage of LP gas, and discrimination against the Dalit community.

In a meeting of the National Assembly, lawmakers expressed concern over the increasing prices of food and other daily necessities, which they said were affecting consumers.

Lawmaker Krishna Bahadur Rokaya said that the price hike had hit consumers hard, while Bishnu Kumari Sapkota urged the government to take effective measures to control prices.

Another lawmaker, Shri Krishna Prasad Adhikari, pointed out that there was a shortage of LP gas in the market, which was affecting cooking and leading to a rise in food prices. He also expressed concern over the impact of adulterated food on public health.

Lawmaker Padma Bahadur Pariyar said that discrimination against the Dalit community continued unabated.

Lawmaker Pooja Chaudhary drew attention to a border dispute in the Susta area of Nawalparasi district and urged the government to take diplomatic initiatives to resolve the issue.

Lawmaker Renu Chand requested the government to conduct a fair and effective investigation into the death of Pooja Dhaniuk, a resident of Sudurpashchim.

Lawmaker Bishnu Devi Pudasaini suggested that the government should use the funds from dormant bank accounts, which have been inactive for 10 years, for public benefit.
