Nepal Government Reaches Agreement with Family of Teenager Killed in Police Firing

A 14-year-old boy, Ganesh Yadav, was killed in police firing in Siraha’s Golbazar on Tuesday evening, sparking widespread outrage and protests.

Following a long meeting between Home Minister Sudan Gurung and the Yadav family, an agreement has been reached. The agreement includes a post-mortem examination of the body, which will then be handed over to the family for cremation.

Additionally, the government has agreed to take legal action against those found guilty in the incident, provide compensation to the family, ensure the education of Ganesh’s siblings, and bear the medical expenses of his ailing parents.

Speaking to reporters, Home Minister Gurung assured that anyone found guilty in the incident would face legal action, regardless of their position.

The body of the deceased is currently at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. After the post-mortem examination, the body will be handed over to the family, who will perform the last rites.

The incident occurred during a protest, which turned violent, resulting in significant damage to property in Golbazar. Several shops and business establishments were vandalized and set on fire.

The incident has also affected other districts in the Madhes Province, with protests turning violent and curfews being imposed in several areas. The Nepal Army and other security agencies have been deployed to maintain law and order.
