Nepal’s business community has urged calm and restraint amid rising tensions in the southern plains, where clashes have left several people dead and many injured.
The Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed deep concern over the violence and appealed to all sides to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue.
The chamber’s acting president, Surakrishna Vaidya, said Nepal was a country of diverse cultures, languages, and faiths, and that the southern plains were a symbol of the country’s unity.
He warned that any violence or unrest in the region would not only disrupt social harmony but also affect daily life, industries, and the overall economy.
The chamber urged the local administration and the government to restore peace and security in the affected areas, including Kapilvastu.
It also appealed to the general public to avoid rumors and provocations and to maintain restraint, saying that mutual trust and understanding were essential for lasting peace.
The chamber called on all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society, media, and local leaders, to play a positive and responsible role in promoting peace and stability.
It also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the violence and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
The chamber wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the clashes.
