Flash Flood in Northwest China Kills 25

A sudden flash flood in northwest China has claimed the lives of 25 people, with 23 others injured, according to official reports. The incident occurred in the popular tourist destination of ‘Suvangshimen Scenic Area’ on July 26, where a group of tourists were camping for the day.

Initially, 10 deaths and 23 injuries were reported, but the death toll has since risen. China’s National Disaster Reduction Commission has announced an investigation into the incident.

The Suvangshimen area, located in the mountainous region of southern Gansu province, is known for its natural stone arches, high-altitude grasslands, and mountain streams. Videos posted on social media showed a fast-moving flood sweeping through the valley, where cars and other vehicles were parked.

This summer, China has been hit by extreme weather events. In July, a tornado in Hubei province killed at least 11 people, while heavy rainfall in southern Guangxi region caused a dam to burst, resulting in six deaths and the evacuation of over 130,000 people. In Gansu province, a landslide in the county of Danchang killed 21 people in July.
