Chelsea has signed 21-year-old Argentine midfielder Valentín Barco from French club Strasbourg on a seven-year contract.
Barco becomes the sixth player to join Chelsea this summer transfer window, following Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck, Emmanuel Ameh, Maxence Lacroix, and Marco Paletta.
The Argentine midfielder is expected to participate in the remainder of Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Hong Kong. Chelsea will face Italian club Juventus on August 5 in a pre-season match.
The transfer fee for Barco has not been disclosed by both clubs.
Barco was part of Argentina’s national team that finished as runners-up in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He played one game in the tournament and was involved in a controversy with English player Jude Bellingham after the semifinal match against England.
Barco started his professional career at Boca Juniors’ academy and joined Brighton in 2024 for £7.9 million. He spent one season at Brighton before joining Strasbourg on loan, where he made a significant impact and was signed permanently by the French club.
This transfer marks the second time Chelsea has signed a player from Strasbourg this summer, indicating a growing cooperation between the two clubs, both owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
