Nepal Forms Taskforce to Revamp Tea and Coffee Sectors

Nepal’s Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, has decided to form a taskforce to reform the country’s tea and coffee sectors.

Chaudhary, who is also the chairperson of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board, made the decision during a meeting with the board’s officials at its central office in Kathmandu on Friday.

The meeting discussed the need for policy and institutional reforms to improve tea and coffee production, processing, marketing, and overall development in Nepal.

Minister Chaudhary emphasized the need for the board to play an effective role in making the tea and coffee sectors more competitive, business-oriented, and farmer-friendly.

She directed the board to finalize the modalities for the restructuring of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board and to submit a report within two weeks, outlining the future direction of the tea and coffee sectors.
