Former President Bhandari Calls for Unity and Social Harmony

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called on all parties to adopt restraint and play a responsible role in maintaining national unity, social harmony, and the rule of law.

Speaking at an event organized by the CPN-UML party office in Chyasal to mark the 29th memorial day of Tulsi Lal Amatya, she said that Nepal’s diverse characteristics as a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, and multi-cultural nation make unity, mutual respect, tolerance, and social harmony the foundation of national unity.

In a sensitive situation, she urged all parties to stay away from rumors, hatred, and divisive attempts and to fulfill their responsibilities from their respective positions.

Former President Bhandari also discussed Amatya’s contributions and said that it is necessary to move forward by adopting the ideals and thoughts of leaders who played a role in establishing democracy in the country.

She mentioned that the democratic achievements are the result of the long struggle, sacrifice, and dedication of senior leaders like Amatya.

Challenge to Protect National Existence

At the event, CPN-UML co-chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said that protecting the country’s existence is the biggest challenge.

He stated that saving the country’s dignity is now a priority and that there is a responsibility to preserve the constitution, democracy, republic, and federalism achieved through the great sacrifices and struggles of the Nepali people.

Former Prime Minister Nepal also mentioned that Amatya chose the difficult path of struggle for the rights and interests of farmers, workers, and oppressed communities despite having the opportunity to live a prestigious and easy life.

The event also honored the founder president of Pratisthan, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and former president Keshav Prasad Badal.
