Nepal’s egg market has become unstable following the outbreak of bird flu, with prices increasing once again. The Nepal Layers Chicken Farmers Association has announced that the wholesale price of eggs has been increased by 30 rupees per crate.
The price of large eggs has reached 530 rupees, medium eggs 500 rupees, and extra-large eggs 545 rupees per crate. However, the consumer price per egg remains at 25 rupees.
The association reports that around 10 lakh chickens have been destroyed due to the bird flu outbreak, resulting in a decline in daily egg production from 43 lakh to 29 lakh.
Although the market price has increased due to reduced production, farmers claim that they are still not receiving a price that covers their costs.
