A landslide has blocked the Beni-Jomsom highway, a major route that connects Myagdi’s district headquarters Beni to Jomsom in Mustang, under the Kaligandaki Corridor.
According to Rajan Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, the road was closed after a landslide occurred in Raghuganga Municipality-2, Baiseri, this afternoon.
‘The road is completely blocked as more landslides occurred while trying to clear the initial one, and an excavator has also been buried,’ Karki said, ‘The process of clearing the landslide has begun, but it may take some time to resume traffic due to the large amount of debris.’
The road section had been closed since Sunday evening. The District Security Committee had decided to suspend traffic from 7 pm to 5 am the next day on Sunday and Monday.
The Beni-Jomsom road is a major route used by hundreds of travelers and tourists to visit Muktinath and further to Korala in Tibet.
